Sekajja Agro Farms Ltd Partners with Makerere University’s CoVAB to Launch Graduate Trainee Program
Buyuki, Nama Sub-County, Mukono District – September 26, 2025
Sekajja Agro Farms Ltd (SAF), a fully integrated poultry enterprise, is proud to announce a new Graduate Trainee Program in partnership with Makerere University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB).
This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice by equipping final-year students and fresh graduates with hands-on experience across SAF’s operations. Trainees will rotate through key areas including:
• Feed mill production
• Hatchery management
• Broiler farming
• Outgrower coordination
• Processing and abattoir services
Speaking during discussions with CoVAB, Dr. Abu Mayanja, Chief Operations Officer at SAF, emphasized the need to build Uganda’s technical capacity in poultry through structured mentorship and practical training.
“Many workers in the poultry sector learn informally on the job. This program will provide structured, immersive training that enhances employability, fosters innovation, and prepares young professionals for leadership in agribusiness,” he noted.
Program Highlights
• Six-month intensive training combining theory with practice.
• Student facilitation including accommodation, internet access, and meals.
• Merit-based selection process through applications and interviews.
• Exposure to the full poultry value chain, from feed to processing.
CoVAB staff welcomed the partnership, noting that it aligns with Makerere University’s mission of producing graduates who meet real industry needs. While formal processes are underway, both parties agreed to begin engaging students immediately to address urgent workforce gaps.
Representatives of final-year students expressed strong interest in the program, especially regarding employment prospects. SAF underscored that beyond financial incentives, the greatest value of the program lies in the practical exposure, entrepreneurial thinking, and industry insights participants will gain.
Looking Ahead
Sekajja Agro Farms Ltd is committed to shaping the next generation of poultry industry leaders by investing in skills development, research collaboration, and innovation. Together with CoVAB, SAF looks forward to building a stronger, more resilient poultry sector for Uganda.
